Christian Scharff, President of the Committee of the Luxembourg Diversity Charter, said that the main issues of diversity include gender, work/life balance, language diversity and age.

Georges Bock, Managing Partner of KPMG Luxembourg explained that for them, diversity is the modern world, with networks promoting diversity. Companies promoting corporate social responsibility should be adopting diversity as results show it is good for business. He said that KPMG Luxembourg has 43 nationalities and 24 languages in its 1,300-strong workforce, representing diversity. He urged attendees to be aware of diversity and to embrace it, seizing the opportunity. He added that adopting diversity helps companies set objectives.

Luxembourg's Minister of the Family and Integration, and patron of the Diversity Charter, Corinne Cahen, expressed that she is delighted that OLAI will be signing the charter, and also ADEM. She said that the diversity movement is growing in Luxembourg and referred to almost 50% of the population being non-Luxembourgish.

Tinu Cornish, an organisational psychologist from the UK, talked about unconscious bias which deals with structural issues. As they are subconscious they can be difficult to notice; however, markets can be damaged by badly planned advertisements which can give out wrong messages, as per examples she illustrated. She explained that bias become wired in the human brain and creates associations, with assumptions made through culture and experience.

In practice, such unconscious bias is triggered in many areas of human resources, with affinity bias a prime example. To counter this, she presented 12 dos and donts to help control biases, as biases can impact business decision-making.

The National Diversity Day in Luxembourg this year will be on 12 May 2015.
